Overview

We are currently seeking a self-motivated and enthusiastic individual with commitment to provide an excellent customer service to join our team at our Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel.

Working within our Catering team, you will assist with the smooth operation of our busy Restaurant, Café Bistro and Conference Room in a professional and efficient manner, in addition, undertaking general hostel assistant duties to help out other departments as and when required such as reception, housekeeping, etc.

Edinburgh Central Youth Hostel runs at a high occupancy level and therefore you will have a commitment to high standards of customer service, excellent communication skills, ability to work in a team as well as unsupervised, using your own initiatives and keen attention to detail.

Routine duties and responsibilities

  • Preparing and serving food and beverages to hostel guests including barista coffee, wines and beers, snacks and meals
  • Undertaking kitchen porter duties as and when required, including cleaning all kitchens and catering equipment, ensuring they are stored correctly and neatly, washing dishes, sweeping/mopping floors, emptying bins, and receiving and storing of food deliveries
  • Assisting other departments such as reception, housekeeping and laundry duties as and when required.

Additional information:

  • Experience of working in the hospitality / catering industry, including previous experience undertaking large group catering, as waiting staff or kitchen assistant within busy catering environment, or pastry chef would be an advantage
  • Relevant certificates (e.g. Elementary Food Hygiene Certificate) or knowledge of HACCP and COSHH would also be an advantage
